Artist's Comments

This is a charcoal drawing of a horse at my barn that had to be put down because of multiple colics. She belonged to a friend of mine, so the origional is a gift to her that I am going to frame to give her a momento of the horse she had for only about a year.

For people who don't know, colic in a horse is when they get the equivilent of really bad cramps in their stomach or a really bad stomach ache, only they can't throw up to relieve the pressure. Sometimes when colicing, their intestines will twist. Raven had already had surgery once and had a 360 degree twist in her intestines, and a second surgery was not an option. So, on her twelfth or so colic in a year and a half, she was put down because she had given up the will to fight. But while she was alive, she was one of the sweetest horses you would ever meet, and many people at our barn were very sad to see her go.
